Vibe Coding — a parent-child AI workshop

One day, hands on. A parent and child sit side by side and build something real together using free, kid-safe AI tools. Not a lecture — you leave with a working thing.

How the day works

Three steps, in order. Every duo leaves with two things: the Dream — the named, sketched big idea — and the Slice — a real working demo of step one.

  1. Step 1

    Dream it

Imagine something you'd want to build. No limits at this stage — the bigger and more personal the idea, the better.

  2. Step 2

    Slice it

Narrow the dream down to the one piece you can actually build today. That slice is the target.

  3. Step 3

    Build it

Make that piece work. The child drives; the parent supports and tests.

Three shapes a project can take

Spot it

Train the computer to recognise something — a pet, a doodle, a gesture.

Show it

Bring an idea to life as an animation.

Play it

Turn it into a simple game the family can play.

We build with Scratch and Teachable Machine — both free, both built for kids, and no account is needed to start.

Why we don't use chatbots with children

We deliberately don't use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or similar chatbot tools with children in this workshop. Those require users to be 13 or older (Claude, 18+), so a child can't legally hold an account — and free tiers cap out mid-session. The tools we use let a child train and use real AI themselves, safely, with no age wall.
